Shower Trays: Shapes and Styles

Shower trays come in more shapes, sizes and styles than you could imagine – especially if your idea of a shower tray is a square, white plastic thing. Nowadays there are some incredibly sophisticated and luxurious designs alongside the more familiar models, so if you want to add a twist to your shower, get some inspiration with this guide and opt for a tray that's just a little bit different.

Common Shower Trays
The most common shower trays are made from resin and stone, and come in one of these shapes:

Square
Quadrant
Penta
Square Penta
Rectangle

The quadrant shape is the most practical as it fits easily into the corner of a bathroom and can be adapted to suit small spaces. The surface traditionally has non-slip raised ridges. The lower wheels and panels can be released to expose the for thorough cleaning. Panel then easily clicks back into position to ensure a water tight seal.idents, and the trays come in a variety of sizes. White is the standard colour.

Walk-In Shower Trays

The latest bathroom trend is for a walk-in shower, with flat flooring and glass shower screens to give a wet room effect. Whilst these are generally floored from the same tiling as the rest of the bathroom, some designs use shower trays laid deep so they are at floor level. A flat square design is ideal for this, and is best in a dark mosaic or stainless steel material make to keep in line with the modern feel of the walk-in.

Low-Profile Shower Trays
As a practical solution for low-ceilinged bathrooms, low-profile shower trays enable the shower itself to be positioned lower down, thus giving the illusion of more space. These can come in different styles from the standard shower tray to the luxurious.

Claw Foot Shower Trays
A really unique style of shower tray is the claw foot, which, like the claw foot bath, creates a Victorian era style in the bathroom. The design by Clearwater is the first of its kind, created to match its bathtub. The shower tray is raised on aluminium feet, and is encased within a circular shower curtain.
